The Girl on the Escalator (revision)

Peering through a gap in the up-and-down escalators,

I look at her naked legs.

I want to peer inside

her yellow skirt and see what’s there,

but I’m not low enough, or she’s too high.

When her blouse comes into view, I can feel

my heart speed up

and my arm hairs

stand

at attention.

Slowly,

our faces come into view.

She’d been watching my body go down as well.

As soon as our eyes meet,

She quickly looks away.

She must have been as disappointed

as I was.
